Summer 2008 will be a busy time for the Church of England with the plans for the Lambeth Conference in July. This will lead to 1000s of Anglican Bishops and their wives visiting communities across the UK. At a political level the G8 Conference to be held in Lake Toya in Hokkaido in Japan will provide a focus for the Micah challenge to ensure that children’s needs are brought to the fore. There will also be a sporting Summer starting with the Euro 2008 football tournament in July (despite the fact that none of our national teams are taking part) followed by the Beijing Olympics in August and then the Paralympics in September after which the countdown for 2012 begins.
Summer Warm & Friendly
7th June 2008, HOPEFEST a family fun day takes place between 11am and 4pm. Once again at the Sir Halley Stuart Fields. There will be all the fun of the fair, rides, games, bouncy castles, etc. Churches are being encouraged to create a stall for the day through which they can present something of what their church has to offer the community. It’s not an opportunity for fundraising and most of what we offer on the day will be free. We will be supported on the day by a team from Make Jesus Known (www.makejesusknown.com) a team that has had many years experience presenting the Christian gospel at such events. So we can look forward to a mixture of Rap, Drama, DJing and testimony. Again we need you to get involved, on the day we will need stewards, litter pickers, people to set up, people to clear up afterwards, people to man the stalls, etc, etc. If you are interested in helping for part or all of the day see Vaughan ASAP or leave a message at the Parish Office. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your schoolmates, tell everybody!!!
